Review:

I went to State St. Grill around 9 p.m this past Saturday, when I walked up it sounded terribly crowded and busy, but to my suprise there was only one other table… a group of five or six frat boys doing sake bombs, and yelling out “Hiroshima” after everyone… ballsy. Especially at a place that serves sushi, the strong-willed sushi chef pretended not to hear their racist belidgerence.

I’m not sure how long this little place has been around but I’ve honestly always avoided it because, well… I’m not very keen on loud, drunk fraternity guys, and this place is located smack dab in the middle of tool central. However, a friend took me here a few weeks ago, we grabbed some food and cheap drinks before hitting the town. I had my doubts but the food isn’t bad and the prices are very reasonable. Plus, they’re open till 2 a.m on Friday ans Saturday… great for when your hungry after a few drinks at the bar.

Asparagus Roll & Salad Roll

This is a picture of the asparagus roll (left) and the salad roll. Both are vegetarian. I really enjoyed both, although the asparagus roll was my favorite.

State St. Dragon Roll

This is a picture of the State St. Dragon Roll. This one was good. However, the eel was slightly fishy tasting, which was very off putting to me.

Overall, I have to give this place three and a half out of five stars. The service is not the best. The rolls are good, but nothing amazing. However, I like it because it is hard to find acceptable sushi places in East County San Diego. This place not only has sushi, but other menu items as well, so it’s not as if they are supposed to be known for their sushi. And the prices are very reasonable. Also being open late is a plus.

Give this place a try if you are in the area.

Introduction:

My boyfriend and I “eat-out” a lot. We live in San Diego, CA.

Yes, we eat out a lot and we’re pretty critical about our dining experiences. I am a frequent “yelper” - for those of you who don’t know what yelp is, it’s a website where consumers can post “reviews” of their experiences at different places all over their town. Such as, bars, restaurants, beauty salons, grocery stores, anywhere really.

We wanted to make a blog (with lots of pictures) with our reviews of some of the places to eat in San Diego.
